The things you don't know

In the real estate profession you meet a lot of different types of people and learn about them first from their application (employment and rental history) and later from your interactions with them. A year or two ago, a girl rented one of our campus apartments from us right before school started in January since she had been in Australia the year before. She came down to see the place with her mom and it seemed like her mom approved of this place for her little girl.

Since our office is about 15-20 minutes from campus, I usually only run into our students on campus. So, I thought it was a little strange when I started seeing this girl at the gym near our office. She's a friendly girl, but she never wanted to be recognized at the gym. One time I said hi and asked what brought her to this part of town. She said she worked around here. That seemed reasonable.

Well, today her new landlord sends me a questionnaire about what kind of resident she was and sends along her new application. It turns out her job in this part of town was working as an "entertainer" at the local strip club! Wow. I guess that's one way to pay the bills....and a far cry from her waitressing job before.... and to put any ideas out of your mind, NO, she never paid her rent in dollar bills : )
