Business trips
I've never had a job where going on a business trip was common place. My jobs weren't really the traveling kind. Unless of course, you consider Saturdays spent campaigning around the State of Ohio as "business trips." Really just the Cleveland area since I worked with the Republicans; if you were a Democrat this would have been replaced with Cincinnati. I thought of them more as "just be glad you have a fun job" kind of outing that started at 8 a.m. on a Saturday...
I did get two trips to DC out of my four years in state government so that was fun. The most fun "business trip" was getting to go to Lake Erie for a day sponsored by lobbyists. The news media makes the relationship between government and lobbyists as this tainted, scandalous thing but really it's an important part of the process. Everyone is a special interest group who wants their voice heard they are just known by different names such as "teachers, doctors, students, lawyers, grocers, etc."
Anyway, now that I'm in real estate full time, sponsored business trips really don't happen since it's sort of a self-funded kind of career. So, I was impressed to get a flyer about a "Realtor Ski Day" some agent is throwing. It's a day at Seven Springs and the fee covers a lift ticket and transportation there and back in the same day. You meet near the airport at 8 a.m. for your day of skiing fun. It sounds fun all except for the 8 a.m. part and the fact that I've been to Seven Springs three times in the last three years (only once for skiing though). We'll see... I need more Realtor friends so maybe this would be good.
