Why we like Gee

Yesterday in Gordon Gee's first sentence of his "acceptance speech" on being OSU's next president, I realized why he is so loved here in Columbus. The guy is funny in an intelligent way. He says to the standing crowd who is applauding him "Oh, it's so nice to have a standing ovation. I haven't had one of those since I turned in my resignation letter at Brown University!" (His short two year presidential stint at the small Ivy League university).

It's kind of like the old show Cheers, you want to go where everyone knows your name. You also want to work where people like you and you like them. OSU definitely likes Dr. Gee and it seems like he likes us as well since he got choked up saying he was so glad to be "home again."

Funny to think that the main people at OSU never leave Columbus, Ohio. The university fires its football coaches and they still live here--they even move away and then come back. It's funny how that is so I guess it's not too strange to have two former presidents sign on to be take their old job back. Okay, back to non-OSU stuff!
